New York, Las Vegas, San Diego

A few things we forgot to post on the previous articles were that we rode the SegWay scooter in Las Vegas. I am going to buy one for Christmas . If you do not know what a SegWay is then have a look at :

http://www.segway.com/

They rock ! We did not take any pictures which was a real shame as it was great fun to do.

We went and saw 'The Producers'last night on Broadway - it was really quite good - very funny and the theatre was beautiful. It is a Mel Brooks prodction and has that type of humour in it -very camp though.

We also rode the NY subway (!) this time while we were here. It was really great. It was fast and did not feel dangerous at all. It was not the cleanest thing I had ever seen but it was efficient.

We went to the Intrepid Air and Space Museum today. That is where they have taken a WWII era Aircraft Carrier and fitted it out as a museum. There was a lot of chest beating about what they had done during the wars but I figured seeing as they were most likley accompanied in fleet by Australian warships in those campaigns then that is not all bad. It is Halloween over here and they realy do indoctrinate the kids - they have all sorts of military themes mixed up with Halloween. Lots of kids and adults have been dressing up in costume over the last few days.

We went shopping yesterday and Emily really scored with some great stuff. We went to Macy's and if you can imagine the women's section at Myer you are close once you times it in size by 50 ! Plenty of clothes for blokes as well.

We had breakfast this morning after checking out of the hotel and on the street outside that leads to Broadway (7th Avenue) they had a street market. I still cannot believe they shut the street off for that ! Have a look at the image below. We got some great bargain on belts, socks and hats ! Somethings for the clan as well :-) The weather was glorious today, no gloves, hats or scarves needed and only 2 layers of clothing instead of four !!! Pity we are leaving today.

Normally, at night and most times of the day it looks like :

We also forgot to post a couple of pictures we took from our day trip (38 Gallons in a Hummer) to San Diego, these are below :

The image above is of a long shot of the San diego beach. It was a really mucky day and there was not much visibility. The next shot is a zoom of the same thing. It looks quite pleasant.

For all of how nice it was there were a LOT of homeless people in this area. It seems like they slept on the beach. I saw more here than in New York which does not seem right.

Emily's Trip so far

Hi everyone, we arrived in the US safe and well, however quite jetlagged. Las Vegas was great, as to be expected. The Follies show was gorgeous, lots of Vegas showgirls showing their bits :) There were even guys in the show but that wasn't so exciting as they were probably gay, and didn't show their bits. Penn and Teller was great, they do an amazing magical show and really take the micky out of magicians. I was lucky enough to be selected to perform a magic trick with Teller, it was so cool, it was a large piece of cardboard which he rolled into a cone and I held, he then dropped in a scarf and tapped it with his wand, I then let go of the cone and sparkles went everywhere and the scarf had disappeared, I have no idea what happened.

While Steve was in Santa Clara I amused myself with a facial and some shopping and general siteseeing, and of course, a little bit of pokie fun. No luck though.

LA was good, it was a lot prettier than last time. I caught the Metro into Hollywood and check out the Chinese Theatre and other Hollywood type stuff. Wonderful Steve found me a wife at the NANOG conference and Jenifer kindly invited me to spend the day in Santa Monica with her cousin Megan, who lives in Orange County (not far from Newport for all you OC fans). We had a fantastic day, it really is very beautiful on the coast.

The flight from LA to NY was OK, we had some extremely loud American woman talk the whole way to some poor guy sitting next to her. Thankfully we had some nice Aussies sitting behind us.

NY has been amazing, I could live here, despite it being VERY cold, 10 degrees today. We have been uptown and visited the Natual Science Museum, their animal displays where incredible. We've been downtown to Times Square, Brooklyn, Staten Island Ferry, did a tour of the UN, that was very interesting, we went to a jazz club tonight in Greenwich Village and also a comedy club. They were great, and we have eaten some great Cuban and Italian food. Our hotel overlooks Central Park and the horse drawn carriages are across the street. We have done lots of walking and caught the subway. We will be doing some shopping tomorrow and visiting a couple more museums before heading off to a broadway show.

USA Holiday

Hello from Emily and Stephen whilst we are travelling overseas.

These pictures here were taken while we were in New York. Emily's was taken whilst on the Staten Island Ferry and mine in front of Central Park while waiting for the tour bus.

Check out the car we hired in LA below. We were after a real USA experience so I figure we would hire a real yank tank - well they come no bigger than the Hummer !

Emily had a go as well :

We did some fishing in Las Vegas on Lake Mead - the big chunk of water that sits behind Hoover Dam. Emily outfished me about 4 to 1 but that is always the way. We were fishing for Stripped Bass. The boat we went on was really crappy, it looked as if it had not been cleaned ever, the motor sounded like it was constantly missing, it failed to start once, the guide spent the whole time smoking ! I should be a pohm the way I am whinging. We did catch some fish though.

This should give you a good idea of what we were fishing for. We bottom bashed with what I would best described as silver mackeral lures. There was not much fight to these fellows but there were boated in some numbers.

If you have any ideas what the equivilent is in Australia then let me know.
